March 2006
Dear Friends, The Wave is building in the Riviera Maya and it’s not a hurricane this time. In the book Purpose Driven Church, Rick Warren says that, “no surfer goes into the ocean and creates his own waves. They ride the waves that are there that day. Only God makes a church grow. Only God can breathe new life into a valley of dry bones. Only God can create waves–waves of revival, waves of growth, and waves of spiritual receptivity.” When we moved down to Playa del Carmen back in September I so much wanted to see a movement of God. We had learned a lot through our experiences in Cancun and this time we were determined to “do it right.” I really wanted to do it by the book but God wanted to do it by His Book. In God’s book God makes the waves and they are always unique. My plan was move down to Playa, decide the segment we were going to try to reach, do a worldview study, find a man of peace, build a core team, go home on a Stateside assignment and build pray support for our team, come back and start a wave of new churches. God had other plans, an outsider may say that it looks like we are doing things the wrong way and that we are being lead by circumstances. I guess they would be half right, we are being lead by circumstances but we are seeing God working in this circumstances. This is the report on how God’s Wave is building in the Riviera Maya. As a result of hurricane Wilma God opened the door for us to start a new church in the home of one of our local political leaders. This was way ahead of my plan and on top of that his house was 12 miles south of town. It’s a beautiful place but I did not believe anyone would find us way down in Paamul. The unique God we serve brought the people our way. We have not done any promotion and the house is hard to find and we are running 80 people in worship each Sunday. I through the right way was to target a homogenous population segment. In our core group in Paamul we have people from 10 different countries and folks from many different cultures in Mexico. We Baptized 4 believers this month and they were all from different countr ies of origin. We are seeing many coming to God each week. As I write the land is being cleared for a new church building in Paamul. This is all a God thing! God wants you to catch His Wave in the Riviera Maya. And this is how you can help. First Pray! Pray for this new church and for the thousands of lost people in Riviera Maya. Pray for our core leaderships team: Bob and Veronica McCain, Pepe and Amy Martin, Martin and Delia Bossler, Alfonzo and Claudia Torres, and Kittie and Randy Harris. Pray for our praise team. Music is a great tool to reach our community. Pray for our Small Group Bible studies. Pray for volunteer teams come our way in the next few months. Thank God for the new believers. Party!
