November 2005

Dear Friends,

We have internet in the house PTL! They said last week that it could be six months before they could restore service. Last night we had a prayer meeting with the core team from our new church start. I said, "I know this might sound selfish but would you pray for our internet connection?" I went home and the internet was on! The miracle of the internet, why am I so surprised when God answers our prayers. Maybe it is a lack of faith or maybe I don't understand how much God loves me. The internet is a small thing but with our kids in schools in the States it is our life line to them.

I am trying to get back to the work of doing interviews for our worldview study but God is not waiting for my master plan. With Wilma things moved ahead of my plan and I want to keep you up date on what I believe God is doing here. My calling is to start churches for the non-churched - non religious - non-Baptist. I believe we have churches in Playa that can meet the needs of those who move here with Baptist or other Evangelical backgrounds but no one is doing a great job of reaching the unchurched.

My target group is the 94% of the population of Playa who are unchurched. Within this group we are discovering many different cultural groups. The more we get to know the people the more we discover groups within the groups so I'm sure that the number cultural segments within our target will continue to grow as we learn more about the peoples of Playa del Carmen.

Thanks so much for your prayers as the people here are still working to recover from Hurricane Wilma. Homer Hawthorne, IMB missionary in Merida, was a great help to our family and to the people in this area as he lead our IMB relief efforts. This is an update on what has been done to date.

4,300 tar roof sheets distributed
5,121 food packets distributed (food for 3 days for a family of 5)
4,000 gallons of purified water distributed
7,000 or more gospel tracts and gospel portions distributed

Here in Playa we worked with the city leaders to get the needed supplies to the people. God used this to open the door for a new house church in the home of one of our local politicians . We met last Sunday for the first time and had 27 people. We are praising God for new beginnings. Pray that this will only be the beginning of what God is doing in Playa. Pray that God would call out leaders and pastors for this new work in Playa. PLEASE boldly pray for a Great movement of God in Playa. If He turned the water in to wine and restored my internet connection I know He can bring a Great Spiritual Awakening to Mexico.

Thanks for caring,
Doug Millar
